Students at Pomona College are incredibly active in
on-campus environmental issues. From caring for “The Farm,”
a 2-acre on-campus organic garden, to completing a
campus-wide audit of carbon emissions, to advocating for
more local and organic produce in the campus dining halls,
students are very enthusiastic about making the college more
sustainable in its operations and in making the whole
college community more aware of sustainability issues.
There are also many opportunities for students to get
involved in sustainability-centered curricular work and
research, in a wide variety of fields. Check out the
Environmental Analysis Program website (http://ea.pomona.edu) for
more information on the college’s interdisciplinary
environmental studies and environmental science courses and
opportunities. Students focusing in or interested in
economics, political studies, biology, psychology,
philosophy, history, art, and many more subjects all have
opportunities to explore the world of sustainability in
their coursework.
Student Projects
Whether through the
Environmental Quality Committee,
other student environmental groups, for a class, or simply
because of a passion for improving the environmental impact
of Pomona College, students at the College are incredibly
involved in on-campus sustainability matters. Here’s a short
list of some of the projects students have worked on.

methods to tell people things they can do to reduce waste
and resource consumption
- Speak with Grounds about watering techniques and ground
moisture-sensing sprinklers
