Renovation: Mason Hall
The renovation of Mason Hall was completed in January
2008. Mason houses the departments of Asian Languages
and Literatures, German and Russian, Romance Languages and
Literatures, and the Foreign Language Resource Center.
Structural improvements were made to bring the building up
to code and to modernize classroom, office, lounge, and language laboratory spaces.

The College is grateful to the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations
that made possible the
Foreign Language
Resource Center (pictured above).
Photos, viewable on the lab's Web site, provide a sense of the type of resource the building has become for
students and professors alike.
Renovation and Dedication: Peter W. Stanley
Academic Quadrangle
Dedication of the Peter W. Stanley Academic Quadrangle to
take place onsite on May 17,
2007 at 1:30 p.m. Students, parents, staff, faculty,
trustees, and friends of the College are welcome!
Located in the center of the square block between College and Harvard
avenues south of 6th Street, the academic quadrangle
will be formally named and dedicated in honor of Peter W.
Stanley, the College's eighth president, on May 17, 2007.
President Stanley will be recognized by colleagues and
friends at a brief ceremony.
Renovation of the academic quadrangle began in mid-December
2007 following the renovation of Mason Hall.
The Stanley Quad will provide a formal design
through the use of hardscape elements and a landscape full
of climate-appropriate plants. Drought-tolerant plants
and minimal irrigation requirements will be visible.
Campus Planning and Maintenance notes that "each of the
three buildings that border the quad will have its own
signature garden space that transitions from the open space
into building entrances. The plant
material for each of these spaces will be related to the
respective building’s architecture." Important to the
teaching and social activities of the College, the space has
been designed to include a new pergola and outdoor barbecue.
There will be smaller formal lawn areas and a permanent
table and seats for outdoor class sessions. A water
fountain and walkways will complete the Harrison side
entrance and adjacent areas respectively.
Renovation: Seaver South
Seaver South renovations began in January 2008
following the completion of the Mason Hall project and in
concert with work done on the Peter W. Stanley Academic Quadrangle south of 6th Street. Completion is scheduled for
January 2009. It will include a new vivarium and aquatic
research facilities, lower division Biology laboratories and
classroom space, as well as academic office space, research
laboratories and instructional laboratory space for both the
Neuroscience and Biology.
