2015 Commencement: Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17

The 2015 Commencement honorary degree recipients and speakers will be:

  • France A. Córdova, director of the National Science Foundation, astrophysicist, researcher, and past president of Purdue University
  • Mikey Dickerson '01, administrator of the U.S. Digital Service Office and "fixer" of
  • Andrew Hoyem '57, founder of Arion Press, typographer,printer, publisher and poet
  • Stephen Reinhardt '51, judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit

The 2015 Commencement Weekend will take place from Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 17, 2015. Commencement Weekend begins on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with the Baccalaureate Services of the Claremont Colleges, culminating with the Commencement Ceremony and Reception on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. 

No tickets are required for the Commencement Ceremony, and it will be streamed live on the Pomona College website.

Other highlights of the three-day weekend include the Phi Beta Kappa Induction Ceremony on the afternoon of Friday, May 15, and Class Day on Saturday, May 16. Featured speakers accompany the presentation of academic prizes and awards at Class Day. The Class Dinner immediately follows the Class Day program and offers a festive barbeque with live music for seniors, their families, friends, faculty and staff. See below for ticket information. Everyone is invited to attend An Evening of Music and Art, featuring the Glee Club; the Senior Art Show; and refreshments in the Carolyn Lyon Garden later that evening. No tickets are required for An Evening of Music and Art

All of The Claremont Colleges have graduation on the same weekend, and accommodations for out-of-town guests are sometimes scarce. It is best to make reservations early. A list of nearby hotels can be found here. Please contact the hotel directly for reservations.

Preparing for Commencement - 2015

Senior Salute (Thursday, February 26 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Edmunds Ballroom)

The Senior Salute is an event sponsored by the Senior Class President, Smith Campus Center, Josten’s, and Collegiate Cap and Gown. Seniors may take care of many Commencement details in one place and one time. Graduating seniors order caps and gowns, class rings, diploma frames, announcement and Commencement DVDs, and meet with the Alumni, Annual Giving, and Career Development staff.

September and December Graduates who are unable to attend the Senior Salute may order caps and gowns at the Coop Store, or by contacting Brenda Schmit or 909-621-8984.

Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns will be distributed Monday, May 4, and Tuesday, May 5, from 1-4 p.m. in Smith Campus Center 235. They will be collected on Stover Walk immediately after Commencement.

Commencement Rehearsal

Rehearsal is mandatory for all seniors participating in Commencement exercises. Seniors must assemble promptly at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, on Stover Walk. Each student will receive a line and seating assignment. Diplomas are presented according to seating assignment.

On-Screen Viewing, Live Streaming, DVDs & Photographs

A large-screen, direct audio-visual feed is available during the ceremony in air-conditioned Bridges Hall of Music. The entire ceremony will be streamed live from

DVDs of the Commencement ceremony are available for purchase. Order forms were mailed out with Senior Salute packets, but you may download the form here [pdf] . The DVDs will be mailed in late July. A photographer will be present at the ceremony to photograph seniors as they receive their diplomas. After Commencement, photograph order forms will be mailed to the graduate’s permanent address.

Special Needs

Guests attending the ceremony in wheelchairs or requiring a Sign Language interpreter should contact the President’s Office. A wheelchair accessible seating area will be available near the northeast corner of the venue for special needs guests and one attendant.

10 a.m. Commencement Exercises  (Marston Quadrangle). The ceremony lasts approximately two hours, and a reception follows. No tickets are required for Commencement.

*The ticket website is no longer available for reserving/purchasing tickets to the 2015 Class Day dinner. Graduating seniors have one more opportunity to order tickets when they pick up their caps/gowns on Monday, May 4, and Tuesday, May 5, from 1pm to 4pm in the Smith Campus Center, Room 235.
