Award-Winning Poet and Translator Erin Mouré To Give
Reading at Pomona College

Poet and translator Erin Mouré will give a reading at Pomona
College on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Mouré, who is based in Montreal, is the author of Little
Theatres: Poems (2005, winner of the A.M. Klein Prize),
O Cidadan (2003), A Frame of the Book (2000),
and Search Procedures (1996). She is also the winner
of the The Canada Council for the Arts Governor General's
Literary Award for Furious (1988).
The Canada Council for the Arts described Mouré’s Little
Theatres as “a nuanced and powerful polemic that plays
in the fissures of comprehension and language. It expands
the reader’s sense of beauty and surprise.” Little
Theatres was a finalist for the Council’s 2005 award.
Little Theatres was also short-listed for the Pat
Lowther Memorial Award, which is given for the best book of
poetry written by a Canadian woman. Judges commented that
Mouré’s book “continues to engage in and elaborate on the
fruitful fusion of music, surrealism and theory… Mouré
breaks us of our addiction to the literal and monolingual,
inventing a singing dialect of the real.”
Mouré frequently teaches Creative Writing at Concordia
University in Montreal.
