Pomona College Workshop Provides Physics Lessons for High School Teachers |

Pomona College will host its Sixth Annual Physics Teachers
Workshop on Saturday, March 29th, from 8:15 a.m.-4:15 p.m.
This workshop—with sessions on "Downloading and Editing
Internet Video for Use in a Physics Class" and "Calculus
Based Derivation of Simple Harmonic Motion"—will provide
Southern California high school physics teachers with
information on advances in physics and hands-on experiments.
The workshop is designed to meet the time and budgetary
constraints of a typical high school.
Other sessions include a talk on the "Flight of the
Wandering Albatross," in which the use of Web-based
satellite tracking data explains how these birds in
Antarctica can stay aloft long enough to fly around the
world. Another lecture will address "Rapid Motion in the
Plant Kingdom: Nature's Weapon's of Mass Reproduction"—
presenting several methods of seed and spore dispersal from
a variety of plant species, including the explosive launch
of bunchberry pollen, the slingshot seed dispersal of
impatiens, and the exploding spore capsules of Sphagnum
moss.
The workshop will be held at Pomona College’s Rose Hills
Theatre (Smith Campus Center, 170 E. Sixth St., Claremont).
