Spoken Word Artist Suheir Hammad to Perform at Pomona College Friday, April 18, 2008

Spoken word artist Suheir Hammad will perform at Pomona College on Friday, April 18, at 8 p.m. in the Bridges Hall of Music (aka Little Bridges), 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont. There is no charge to attend.

Hammad, perhaps best-known for her performance on HBO’s Def Jam Poetry, has performed across the globe and is the author of two books of poetry, Born Palestinian, Born Black (1996) and Zaatar Diva (2006), as well as a memoir, Drops of This Story (1996).

In her performances, Hammad addresses issues crossing both national and international boundaries, and her poetry touches on a variety of issues, such as racism, sexism, international relations, sexuality, gender, power, war and oppression.
