Pomona College Senior Selected as Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar |

Pomona College senior Genna Beier has been selected by the Upland Rotary club to be a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for 2009-2010. A politics major from Falls Church, Virginia, Beier was awarded $24,000 for one year of graduate study. Her first choice is to receive a master's degree in intercultural education at Universidad Católica del Uruguay in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and goodwill among people from different countries. In both their host country and upon returning home, scholars will give presentations to Rotarians and other groups about their cultural experiences.
The Rotary Foundation's Ambassadorial Scholarships were founded in 1947. Nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.
