College Students Second Happiest In National Survey of
351 Colleges |
 |
Pomona College students are among the happiest in the
nation, according to the Princeton Review. In the Review's
survey of more than 100,000 students at 351 colleges
nationwide, Pomona students were second only to those at
DePaul University in satisfaction with their college.
In the Review's The Best 351 Colleges, 2004 Edition, Pomona
also ranked #2 in "Schools run like butter" and #14 in
"Dorms like palaces."
In summary comments on the Review website, Pomona students
noted that: "you're sure to meet a healthy number of
professors whom you 'can cultivate a close relationship
with.' Remarks one student, 'I had dinner with the dean last
night, I received a personal e-mail from two profs. in the
last 24 hours, and my history prof. wrote more about my
paper than I did.' Students at Pomona choose classes from 'a
wide range of topics' offered by the college's 26
departments. Although 'academics are highly valued by
students,' they're 'never a source of extreme stress.' One
student sums up the experience at Pomona with this comment:
'It's kind of like going to summer camp with a lot of
work.'"
"Pomona students boast they're 'some of the easiest people
to get along with.' This is a West Coast school at its best,
without any of 'the East Coast high-strung mentality.' While
students are 'smart,' they're also 'laid back.'"
"'We work hard and play hard . . . more often than not it's
on the same day.' Anyone would have difficulty in labeling
Pomona, as 'the activities are as diverse as the people.'
The college offers a slew of diversions for students, who go
to 'movies, speakers, and concerts,' 'to the pool, the
beach, and the mountains,' and take advantage of 'the fun,
[and] free classes' like 'piano lessons' and 'ju-jitsu.'
Most students enjoy being 'so close to L.A.,' which is about
35 miles west. Not surprisingly, Pomona's geography is one
of the school's draws. A freshman loves 'being half an hour
away from pro basketball, pro baseball, skiing, the beach,
museums, nightclubs, and especially Disneyland!' And let's
not forget the weather. 'Where else can you spend a winter
afternoon studying by the pool after a morning of intense
classes?'"
