New
Republic Editor to Speak on China’s Power and
International Foreign Policy in Pomona Student Union

The Pomona Student Union (PSU) at Pomona College will host
Joshua Kurlantzick, foreign editor of The New Republic,
who will speak on China’s soft power and the consequences
for international foreign policy, on Wednesday, Sept. 28,
at 5:30 p.m.
Joshua Kurlantzick joined The New Republic as foreign editor
in October 2002. The June 27, 2005 issue of the magazine
included his report on “How China is Changing Global
Diplomacy: Cultural Revolution.”
Prior to working for TNR, Kurlantzick covered international
economics and trade for U.S. News and World Report
and Southeast Asia for The Economist as a correspondent
based in Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, Kurlantzick has
written for Foreign Affairs, The Washington
Quarterly, World Policy Journal, The Atlantic
Monthly and Current History, among others.
Kurlantzick is a graduate of Haverford College.
The event is sponsored by the Pomona Student Union, a
non-partisan student organization dedicated to "raising the
level of honest and open dialogue on campus. By helping
students become more knowledgeable and better informed on
the political and social issues that confront our society,
PSU aims to create informed citizens.”
The talk is open to the public and will be held in the Frank
Dining Hall's Blue Room (260 E. Bonita Ave., Claremont).
There is no charge to attend the lecture.
