Pomona
College Student Hannah Crummé Appointed to National
Hillel Board |
 |
Hannah Crummé, a Pomona College junior, has been named to
the Board of Directors of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish
Campus Life, which has affiliates on over 500 campuses
around the world. Crummé is one of six new student members
appointed to the Board of Directors, which is comprised of
more than 80 key representatives from the United Jewish
Communities leadership, college students, Hillel
professionals, faculty and delegates at-large. It is the
organization’s highest decision-making body.
“By appointing these student leaders to our Board, Hillel
recognizes the valuable perspectives they will bring to the
organization,” Hillel President Wayne Firestone said.
“Enriching the lives of Jewish students is our mission. We
could not fulfill this goal without their meaningful
insights and recommendations.”
On the Hillel Board, Crummé serves on the Campus Advancement
Committee and the Hillel in the Former Soviet Union
Committee. She will also help set policy on how Hillel
affiliates can better serve the Jewish communities on their
campuses. “I’m looking forward to working in an adult
business setting and seeing the management of a profound and
large non-profit from a first hand perspective,” says Crummé.
“I’m also looking forward to meeting with a global Jewish
community and seeing how I can help amplify the Jewish
community in Claremont.”
On campus, Crummé serves as a Jewish peer intern, head
mentor for the Jewish Mentor Program and as Hillel’s Liaison
to Committee for Campus Life and Activities at Pomona. In
programming activities, she explains that she tries to reach
out to secular Jews and those of mixed heritage. “I myself
am only part Jewish and consider that an integral part of my
experience.” Among the most popular activities she’s
organized were a Stand-Up for Peace show featuring Jewish
and Muslim comedians and a klezmer band performance at The
Motley.
A resident of Corvallis, OR, Crummé is an English major and
is also involved with KSPC, the Pomona College radio
station, and the Metate, the College’s yearbook.
Pomona College is the founding member of The Claremont
Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate colleges and
two graduate schools. Hillel at the Claremont Colleges
serves all of the consortium’s students, faculty and staff.
