Estrich, Political Strategist and News Commentator, To
Speak on the Political Scene & Media Coverage |

Susan Estrich, former Democratic strategist and current Fox
News TV commentator, will speak on “Perspective and Bias:
The Political Scene and How the Media Covers It,” at Pomona
College on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The 7 p.m. event kicks off the
“Women in the Media Lecture Series” at Pomona College.
A long-time political strategist, Estrich has served as
National Campaign Manager, Dukakis for President Campaign,
1987-88; Senior Policy Advisor, Mondale-Ferraro Campaign,
1984; Executive Director, Democratic National Platform
Committee, 1984; Special Assistant, Senator Edward M.
Kennedy, 1980-81; and Deputy National Issues Director &
Platform Coordinator, Kennedy for President Campaign,
1979-80. She has been the Robert Kingsley Professor of Law
at the University of Southern California since 1990.
Estrich is also the author of the just published book The
Case for Hillary Clinton (Regan Books, 2005). Her
previous books include Sex and Power (2001), How
to Get Into Law School (2004) and Getting Away with
Murder: How Politics is Destroying the Criminal Justice
System (1998).
Estrich's talk will be held in the Bridges Hall of Music
(Little Bridges), 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont. The event is
sponsored by the Associated Students of Pomona College (ASPC)
and the College’s Public Events Committee. The lecture will
be followed by a question and answer session and book
signing.
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, New York Times correspondent
Amy Waldman will discuss “The Democratization of
Information” and explain how social values and power
dynamics are being reshaped through broadened access to
information, from online newspapers to blogs, from wireless
networks to camera phones.”
For the Times, Waldman has served as bureau chief in
New Delhi and reported from Russia, Afghanistan and Iran.
Before joining the Times, she worked as an editor at
the Washington Post and as an editor and writer at The
Washington Monthly. From 1992 to 1994 she lived in South
Africa teaching at the University of Western Cape and
working as a freelance journalist.
Waldman’s talk is set for 7 p.m. in the Pomona College Smith
Campus Center, Rose Hills Theatre, 170 E. Sixth St.,
Claremont. The event is sponsored by ASPC, ASHMC and the
New York Times Education Program.
