A
Cappella Festival Slated for Nov. 6 at Pomona College |

Showcasing the best of collegiate a cappella music, the 14th
annual SCAMfest (formerly the Southern California A Cappella
Music Festival) will be held at Pomona College on Friday,
November 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will feature ten groups vocalizing without
instruments. Representing the Claremont Colleges are the
Claremont Shades, After School Specials, Kosher Chords,
Men's Blue and White, Women's Blue and White, Midnight Echo,
and MoodSwing. Visiting groups include USC’s SoCal Vocals,
USC Reverse Osmosis and the UCLA ScatterTones.
The Claremont Shades, which released their latest album
“Random Play” in 2006, have been featured on two Best of
College A Cappella (BOAC) compilation CDs and was nominated
to the International Championship of A Cappella (ICCA)
Berkeley competition in 2006.
Reflecting the soaring popularity of college a cappella,
more than 1000 people typically attend SCAMfest. At the
Claremont Colleges, more than 80 students participate in a
cappella groups and more would like to join.
Tickets for the event are $8 at the door. SCAMfest will be
held at Bridges Auditorium on the Pomona College campus (450

Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding member
of the Claremont Colleges. The consortium of independent
colleges also includes Claremont McKenna College, Harvey
Mudd College, Pitzer College, Scripps College, Claremont
Graduate University and the Keck Graduate Institute.
