Expert
Available on Democratic Primary, Political Campaigns and
Elections |

David Menefee-Libey, a professor of politics at Pomona
College in Claremont, CA, is available to discuss the race
for Democratic presidential nominee and current election
issues, as well as placing today’s races in historical
context.
Prof. Menefee-Libey focuses his research on the
transformation of American campaigns and elections since the
1950s, with special attention to the role of parties in
campaign strategies and methods. He has published
extensively on the subject, including the book The Triumph
of Campaign-Centered Politics (Chatham House, 2000). More
recently, he led field research on the most expensive U.S.
House race in history, the California race between Jim Rogan
and Adam Schiff in 2000, and Schiff's reelection campaign in
2002. Findings from that research were presented to the U.S.
Supreme Court in the summer of 2003 as it heard arguments on
the constitutionality of the McCain-Feingold campaign
finance law.
His second field of research is the politics of school
reform, with a focus on urban public school districts, which
makes him a particularly knowledgeable expert on education
issues in the 2004 elections.
At Pomona College, Prof. Menefee-Libey teaches Introduction
to American Politics, Democratic Theory and Practice, The
United States Congress, Political Parties and Elections, and
Education Politics and Policy.
His on-air media experience includes serving as one of two
west-coast analysts on National Public Radio on Election
Night 2000 (and the morning after). In the last six months,
he has provided political and election analysis and
commentary for Southern California NPR affiliate KPCC's "AirTalk,"
Chicago Public Radio's "Odyssey," for whom he discussed the
relationship between the Democratic Party and different
groups encompassed within “The Left,” and a CNBC morning
show. He also did analysis and commentary on Ireland's
national radio network in 2000, while on serving as a
Fulbright Professor in that country.
Prof. Menefee-Libey can be reached at his office (909)
607-9323 or by email at
David.MenefeeLibey@pomona.edu. To facilitate
high-quality transmission of interviews, Pomona College has
installed an ISDN line at its campus radio station. If you
would like to use this facility to interview Prof.
Menefee-Libey, please call Cynthia Peters, associate
director of Public Affairs at Pomona College, at (909)
621-8515.
