| Outside
Scholarships |
 |
Many Pomona students enter the College with a substantial
number of outside scholarships, having taken the time and
effort to apply on their own for these competitively awarded
private resources. The extra effort involved in searching
out these sources of funding and the honor of receiving one
or more of these competitive awards is recognized by the
College in our treatment of outside scholarships.
While a student is prohibited from being over-awarded, and
the College must coordinate outside scholarships with aid
offered by Pomona, an adjustment is first made to the loan
and employment allowance in the offer of financial aid. If
the outside scholarship exceeds the total loan and
employment allowance, an adjustment in the Pomona
Scholarship is then made. If a student’s outside scholarship
is less than the total loan and employment allowance, the
student may request that the scholarship first replace loan
or first replace employment, depending on the student’s
preference.
The advantage of receiving outside scholarships is
graduating without student loans. If you would like to
search for additional outside scholarships, check out these
links to scholarship search engines.
