The Office of Institutional Research conducts a number of
surveys to inform decision making and planning processes on
campus. These surveys focus on various aspects of students’
experiences and together provide a comprehensive source of
information for assessing the Pomona College experience. The
current program of institutional research at the College
includes the following surveys:
CIRP Freshman Survey
The CIRP
Freshman Survey is part of the Cooperative Institutional Research
Program, the oldest and largest national study of higher
education. Hundreds of institutions across the country
participate in this survey every year, providing
longitudinal, comparative data on trends and characteristics
of entering freshmen. Summary data compare Pomona
freshmen to freshmen at close peer colleges, at all highly
selective four-year colleges (non-sectarian), and all
non-sectarian four-year colleges nationally (all selectivity
levels).

Enrolled Students Survey
Designed for a consortium of selective colleges and
universities nation-wide, the Enrolled Students Survey (ESS) is a tool
for evaluating student engagement and understanding how
students use their time. This survey was first administered
in Spring 2003, with
plans to continue administering the survey every four years.

HERI Faculty Survey Summary
Alumni Survey Also part of a consortial initiative of peer
colleges and universities across the country, the
Alumni
Survey
is a useful tool for tracking graduates beyond
Pomona and understanding the impact of their undergraduate
experience on their life after college. Two cycles of the
survey, administered every five years, have provided data on
three classes of Pomona graduates: 1989, 1994, and 1999.
Parent Survey The Parent
Survey provides national comparative data on a number of
topics, including parents' satisfaction with the College,
access to information, parent-child contact, and the impact
of financing their child's education. Summaries from the first
administration of this survey in Spring 2007 are included
below.
