Pomona College is accredited by the Western Association of
Schools and Colleges (WASC). The College is currently
undergoing a periodic reaffirmation of its accreditation, a process
that involves three phases over multiple years:
- The
Proposal (Accepted by WASC May 2007)
- Capacity & Preparatory Review (Spring 2009)
- Educational Effectiveness Review (Spring 2010)
Since Pomona's last accreditation visit by WASC in 2002,
the landscape of accreditation has changed considerably,
including a greater emphasis on the collection and analysis
of evidence on educational
effectiveness and student learning. The process of reaccreditation within this new context is an opportunity
for the Pomona College community to affirm its highest
educational aspirations and demonstrate its commitment to
ongoing improvement in the context of WASC's four
Standards.
While reaccreditation touches every individual and office across campus, a steering committee
provides continuous leadership for all activities relating
to WASC. Members of the 2009-2010 steering committee are:
-
Cecilia Conrad,
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College
-
Richard Fass, Vice President for Planning
-
Miriam Feldblum, Vice President and Dean of Students
-
Kris Fossum,
Assistant Dean of the College
-
Michael Green,
Assistant Professor of Philosophy
-
Katherine Hagedorn, Professor of Music and Associate Dean of
the College
-
Jennifer Rachford, Director of Institutional Research
-
Arden Reed,
Professor of English
-
Dara Regaignon, Assistant Professor of English and Director of College Writing
A number of
resources
are available to support the community in its understanding
of WASC's expectations and the criteria that will guide
their evaluation of Pomona's institutional capacity and
educational effectiveness.
