A Cappella Festival Slated for Nov. 7 at Pomona College
Showcasing the best of collegiate a cappella music, the 13th annual SCAMfest (formerly the Southern California A Cappella Music Festival) will be held at Pomona College on Friday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will feature ten groups vocalizing without instruments. Representing the Claremont Colleges are the Claremont Shades, Men's Blue and White, Women's Blue and White, MoodSwing, Midnight Echo, and the After School Specials. Visiting groups include USC’s SoCal Vocals, These Guys (Southern California), the UCLA Awaken, and the UCLA ScatterTones.
The Claremont Shades, which released their latest album Random Play in 2006, have been featured on two Best of College A Cappella (BOAC) compilation CDs and was nominated to the International Championship of A Cappella (ICCA) Berkeley competition in 2006.
Reflecting the soaring popularity of college a cappella, more than 1,000 people typically attend SCAMfest. At the Claremont Colleges, more than 80 students participate in a cappella groups and more would like to join.
Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and may be purchased at Pomona College’s ASPC office (Smith Campus Center, 170 E. Sixth St., room 241, Claremont), or $8 at the door. SCAMfest will be held at Bridges Auditorium on the Pomona College campus (450 N. College Way, Claremont).
Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges. The consortium of independent colleges also includes Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, Scripps College, Claremont Graduate University and the Keck Graduate Institute.
