Paul Efron Elected Chair of Pomona College Board of Trustees
Paul S. Efron, an advisory director at Goldman Sachs and Company, has been elected Chair of the Pomona College Board of Trustees. He succeeds Stewart R. Smith and is the 14th chair of the Board since the school’s founding in 1887. Pomona College is located in Claremont, CA, and is one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges.
Efron, a member of the Pomona Class of 1976, was named to the Board of Trustees in 2000. For the last two years, he has served as chair of the Finance Committee and vice chair of the Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Academic Affairs Committee, Audits Committee and Investments Committee.
David Oxtoby, president of Pomona College, noted that “Paul Efron has been a dedicated and thoughtful Board member, offering a broad perspective on the College as both an alumnus and parent. His expertise in areas related to investments and finance has been and will continue to be particularly helpful for Pomona at this point in time.”
At Goldman Sachs, in addition to serving as an advisory director, Efron co-chairs the firm’s Credit Capital Markets Committee and is a member of the Firmwide Capital Committee. Since joining the firm in 1984, he has had management responsibilities for a variety of groups including the Capital Markets Group, the New Products Group and Leveraged Finance. He became a managing director in 1996 and a partner in 1998. He is also a director of Insurent Corporation.
Efron earned his B.A. degree in English and was named to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1980, he earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania. A resident of Larchmont, NY, he is married to Susan Efron.
