Film Screening: Papers: The Movie to Be Screened Nov. 18 at Pomona College
Papers: The Movie, a film about undocumented youth and the challenges they face as they turn 18, will be screened at Pomona College, in the Rose Hills Theatre (170 E. Sixth St., Claremont), on Wednesday, Nov. 18. A reception will begin at 7 p.m. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion led by Will Perez from Claremont Graduate University, who is the author of We ARE Americans: Undocumented Students Pursuing the American Dream.
“There are approximately 2 million undocumented children who were born outside the U.S. and raised in this country. These are young people who were educated in American schools, hold American values, know only the U.S. as home and who, simply by turning 18, become 'illegal' immigrants. Without the DREAM Act, there is no path to citizenship for these young people,” note the film’s producers.
The movie screening is being sponsored by the Claremont DREAM Act Coalition with the support of Café con Leche, Chicano Latino Student Affairs, Social Action for Justice and Education, the Public Events Committee at Pomona College, and Pomona College’s Dean of Students Office. The reception will be provided by the student coordinators of the Pomona College Draper Center for Community Partnerships.
