Judge Kimberly Mueller '81 Nominated to Federal District Court by President Obama
U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly J. Mueller '81 has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve on the U.S. Eastern District Court, which covers a large swath of California and is the busiest district in the country. Mueller, who majored in religion at Pomona, has been a federal magistrate judge in Sacramento since 2003. Previous to that position, she had a private practice specializing in intellectual property. According to the Sacramento Bee, Senator Barbara Boxer recommended Mueller to the President, and said "When confirmed, she will make history as the first woman to serve on the Eastern District court." She added that Mueller's "sharp intellect and broad experience will be an asset" to the court. Her appointment still has to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
