Mexico "Zoot Suit" Production, Which Was Coordinated and Inspired by Prof. Alma Martinez, Covered in L.A. Times
The L.A. Times covers the current staging of Zoot Suit in Mexico City by the National Theatre Company of Mexico, its first-ever Chicano play production, in an article titled "For Mexico, 'Zoot Suit' still relevant after 30 years." The production was spurred by the efforts of Professor Alma Martinez, who staged the play here at Pomona in 2008. It was the first time the landmark Chicano play had been staged in the Los Angeles area—where it is set—in 30 years. Martinez, who acted in the original play and 1981 film, is the Mexico Project Coordinator for the current production and is also performing in the play.
