Video: Harwood Court Renovation Project
Over the summer, Harwood Court residence hall received a complete makeover--including new paint, flooring, furniture and ceiling fans--to complete a three-year project which, in previous summers, upgraded the building's electrical and plumbing systems, exterior windows and exterior paint. Harwood also gained a new room with two new beds, a completely refurbished laundry room, a refurbished faculty apartment, and an overall homier feel due to less exposed plumbing, new doors on student rooms, and new lighting. The general contractor on the project was McEachron Construction.
Additionally, improvements were made in order to increase the building's sustainability. These changes include more energy-efficient lighting and lighting motion sensors in hallways and bathrooms; low-flow shower heads and water aerators in the sinks; energy-star certified washers and dryers; dorm furniture made of Forest Stewardship Council certified wood; and a real-time monitor of the building's energy consumption located in the lobby.
