The Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Henrik Ibsen's "John Gabriel Borkman" October 7-10
The Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to present Henrik Ibsen's “John Gabriel Borkman,” with performances October 7-9 at 8 p.m. and October 9-10 at 2 p.m. Performances will be held at the Pomona College Seaver Theatre (300 East Bonita Ave., Claremont).
As timely as today's headlines: Once called “King Borkman,” John Gabriel had visions of saving humanity through a Ponzi-like scheme that failed. The play has been called Ibsen's King Lear for good reason. Disgraced, his wife bitter, and his family life in total disarray, Borkman strove to “gain the world” only to lose his soul. John Gabriel Borkman contains all the elements of a T.V. soap opera, but Ibsen, the magician, transforms this all into a gigantic clash of characters and passion, filling the stage with poetic language and mythic depth.
Tickets are now on sale at the Pomona College Seaver Theatre Box Office. The costs are $10 for general admission and $5 for students, faculty, staff and seniors.
