Anne Lydens '13 Named Division III West Region Cross-Country Athlete of the Year
Anne Lydens '13 has been awarded the 2010 Division III West Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year award. She was earlier honored with the SCIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year award in recognition of her first-place finish at SCIAC Multi-Duals and second-place finish at SCIAC Championships.
After placing first at the Division III West Regionals at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, two weeks ago, Lydens then competed at the NCAA National Championship Meet at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, last Saturday, taking ninth out of 279 runners. She clocked 21:27 over the 6000m (3.7 mile) course.
Her placing earns her an All-American honors--the third Pomona-Pitzer woman to earn such distinction. Lydens is now the highest-placing runner in school history at cross-country nationals, and she and current interim coach Alicia Freese '10 are the only individual regional women's cross-country champions in Sagehen history.
Two men's cross-country team members also ran in the Nationals after placing 14th and 18th, respectively, at West Regionals and being named to the All-West Region team. Senior Charles Enscoe took 154th in 25:48 over the 8000m (5 mile) course, while sophomore Alex Johnson finished just behind in 164th (25:52). Enscoe’s mark was a 7-second improvement and Johnson improved his previous best mark by 8 seconds. Paul Balmer '12 and Hale Shaw PI '12 were also named to the All-West Region team after their performances at Willamette in the West Regionals.
