Electro-Hip-Hop Band LMFAO and Comedian Aziz Ansari to Perform at Pomona College
Two performances will be held at Pomona College, featuring band LMFAO on April 2 at 8 p.m. and comedian Aziz Ansari on April 14 at 8 p.m.
LMFAO is comprised of DJs/rappers Redfoo (Stefan Kendal Gordy) and SkyBlu (Skyler Gordy), son and grandnephew, respectively, of Motown record label founder Berry Gordy. The band originally planned on calling themselves “Sexy Dudes,” but when SkyBlu sent an iChat message to his grandmother about the proposed name she replied with the abbreviated instant messaging expletive, “LMFAO,” which inspired their final choice.
This electro/alternative hip-hop group’s first single, “I’m in Miami Bitch” peaked at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the song also provided the opening theme for reality-show Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami. Their single “Get Crazy” was the theme for MTV’s Jersey Shore. LMFAO’s current release with Interscope Records is Party Rock Anthem. Tickets for LMFAO’s performance are $25 for students, staff and faculty at the Claremont Colleges and $30 for general admission.
Actor, writer and comedian Aziz Ansari is best known for his role as Tom Haverford on the NBC television sitcom Parks and Recreation. Last year he released his debut CD/DVD, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, and he hosted the 2010 MTV Movie Awards show.
Ansari began his career as a standup comedian in New York City and later went on to create and star in the critically acclaimed MTV sketch comedy Human Giant. Ansari has appeared in feature films, including Funny People and I Love You, Man. In 2005, Rolling Stone included him in their annual "Hot List" as their choice for the "Hot Standup," and he won the Jury Award for “Best Standup” at HBO’s 2006 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. Aziz Ansari’s show costs $20 for students, staff and faculty at the Claremont Colleges and $40 for general admission.
Event tickets can be purchased through the Bridges Auditorium Box Office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or via Ticketmaster.com. For further information call the box office: (909) 621-8032.
