Comedian Demetri Martin to Perform at Pomona College
Stand-up comedian, actor and writer Demetri Martin—named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the “25 Funniest People in America”—will perform at Pomona College’s Bridges Auditorium (450 N. College Way, Claremont) on Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m., as part of his 2012 tour, “Telling Jokes in Cold Places.”
Tickets are $15 for Claremont Colleges students and $27 for general admission, available at the Bridges Auditorium box office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, contact (909) 607-1139. Tickets may also be purchased on Ticketmaster.com.
Airing on Comedy Central, Martin’s show, “Important Things with Demetri Martin,” is a stream-of-consciousness sketch and variety show that features Martin riffing on a single topic—past episodes include “Timing” and “Power.” Prior to his show, Martin was a contributor to the segment “Trendspotting with Demetri Martin” on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and was a staff writer on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
This is a Book (2011), features Martin’s longer-form humor essays and conceptual pieces, as well as his trademark charts, doodles, drawings, one-liners and lists—such as the world views of optimists, pessimists and contortionists.
Will Ferrell praised This is a Book as embodying “the essence of Demetri's comedy to perfection, which is a good thing since he wrote it. Silly but incredibly smart, it's exactly what puts me in awe of his work.” Conan O’Brien said of Martin, "Demetri Martin has a very funny and original mind. If I could draw a graph explaining how funny and original he is, I would. But I don't do that. Demetri does that."
Martin’s first one-hour stand-up special “Demetri Martin. Person.” premiered in January 2007. His first CD/DVD, “These are Jokes,” was released in 2006.
