President David Oxtoby to Take Fall Semester Sabbatical
President David Oxtoby will be taking a three-month sabbatical, starting in late September, to be spent at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom for collaborative research with a colleague in chemistry, and for time to read, write and reflect on issues in higher education, particularly in an international context.
The Board of Trustees recently approved Oxtoby's request for the sabbatical, which was included within his contract when he accepted his position at Pomona College in 2003. Before leaving, Oxtoby will take part in the launch of the 2012-2013 school year and return for the full second semester. Per the approval of the Board of Trustees, Dean of the College Cecilia Conrad will serve as acting president for three months. The College will not be appointing an acting dean, but some of Dean Conrad’s responsibilities as dean will be undertaken by the associate deans.
“I look forward to this sabbatical and am confident that the strong leadership in place at the College will help us to move forward without a pause in the many plans we have underway,” said Oxtoby.
