Professor and Former U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter Publishes Op-Ed on U.S.-Pakistan Relations in The Atlantic
In an editorial for The Atlantic's website, Visiting Professor of International Relations Cameron Munter looks back at U.S.-Pakistan relations during the past four years and how the two nations can progress in the next four years and beyond. Two suggestions Munter offers are to "continue a reasonable, clear-eyed cooperation on counterterrorism informed by (but not defined by) what happens in Afghanistan, and that we must reassess civilian assistance to encourage reform of Pakistani institutions that allow for truly democratic Pakistani leadership." He also suggests moving beyond a bilateral approach and looking at the entire region and encouraging relationships beyond government, including in business, education and philanthropy. Munter served as U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan from 2010.
