Bridge Markland from Berlin will perform her one-woman show, "Faust in the Box," conjuring Goethe's Faust with hand puppets and pop music and high-speed changes between Mephistopheles, Faust and Margaret. The show will be performed in English and held at Pomona College on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m., in Rose Hills Theater (Smith Campus Center, 170 E. Sixth St., Claremont). Admission is free but reservations are required via email. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org or (909) 621-8948.
A pioneer of drag and transgender performance in Germany, and the organizer of Drag-King events, Markland's shows encompass dance, theatre, cabaret and puppet theatre. Using hand puppets as her opponents, in "Faust in the Box" Markland acts with intense physicality and lip-syncs to music and the voices of the various protagonists.
"The piece has delighted audiences with its humor, emotion, grotesqueness, and great sensibility and received high praise throughout the United States, Canada, and Germany," says Pomona College Professor of German Friederike von Schwerin-High.
