Google Statistician to Give "Statistics and Big Data at Google" Lecture at Pomona College

Google Statistician Tim Hesterberg

Data drives Google. Search, ads, YouTube or maps—they all live on data. Google senior ad quality statistician Tim Hesterberg will discuss how the company uses data and statistics, how Google is always experimenting to make improvements, and how the tech powerhouse adapts statistical ideas to do things that have never been done before. This free talk at Pomona College is open to the public (no statistical background is required) and will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m., at Rose Hills Theatre (170 E. Sixth St., Claremont).

Hesterberg, who is based in Seattle, has been with Google since 2008. Prior to that, his experience includes working with Insightful Corp. as a senior research scientist, teaching at Franklin and Marshall College, and working with Pacific Gas & Electric Company as an operations research analyst. He has been a fellow at Australian National University in Canberra, St. Olaf College, and with the National Science Foundation. Hesterberg is a statistical expert trainer and has published extensively.
