Pomona College Featured in Los Angeles Times Story on Community College Transfers
Pomona junior Sichen Hernandez-Martinez
Pomona College and Sichen Hernandez-Martinez ’15 were featured in the April 21 Los Angeles Times article “Transfers show community colleges’ rising reputation.” Hernandez-Martinez transferred to Pomona last fall after three years at Chaffey College.
The story notes that the nation’s 7.7 million community college students have become “increasingly important in campus efforts to boost socioeconomic and ethnic diversity as well as the mix of ages, cultures and life experiences.”
As part of the White House College Pipeline Initiative, Pomona committed to increase its number of community college transfer students, increase its percentage of low-income students and add a second group of Posse Foundation students with a focus on the STEM fields.
