Professor Fernando Lozano
Professor Mary Paster
Professors Fernando Lozano and Mary Paster are Pomona’s new associate deans of the College. On July 1, they took over from Professors Jonathan Wright and Nicole Weekes, who completed their terms in June.
Lozano, an associate professor of economics, will be responsible for sponsored research, faculty development and diversity, and overseeing the College’s efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty. His portfolio will also include serving on the Pomona College Emergency Response Team, the Radiation Safety Committee, and the Animal Welfare and Use Committee, among others. Lozano, who joined the faculty in 2005, is a member of the American Economic Association’s Committee in the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession and a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, Germany. He won the College’s Wig Distinguished Professor award in 2008 and chaired the College’s Faculty Executive Committee during the 2013-2014 school year.
Paster, associate professor and chair of the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science, will be working with the Research Committee, overseeing internal research funds and collaborating with the Institutional Review Board on research involving human subjects. A member of the faculty since 2006, Paster has won multiple awards and grants for her research and was elected to the Executive Committee of the Association of Contemporary African Linguistics in 2013. She has published 16 peer-reviewed articles and numerous other scholarly papers and she recently served as the 2013-2014 Phi Beta Kappa chapter president and coordinated the celebratory centennial lecture series.
