Art & Art History

Untitled 2008

Elizabeth Farias ('09);  Sandeep Mukherjee

Ever thought Windex could be a wonderous, artistic medium? By working in a professional artist’s studio, these discoveries can be known by taking a closer look into the complexities, challenges and rewards involved in the creative process of L.A. based contemporary artist, Sandeep Mukherjee. Through hands-on experience, one gains insight on the individual thought process, an in-depth, personal view of how to make an artwork and the variety of details that need to be taken into consideration. For example, the importance of color, the sense of space and movement, and how its relational nature informs the viewer. Through these observations, one can conclude that there is no linear path in creating;  only by making mistakes and corrections can one learn a better method to realize and articulate. This direct exposure has reaffirmed that art has freedom within limitations, and understanding this is key to exploring its potential of expression.
