Set sail on the three-masted schooner American Pride with a crew of
professional mariners to tour the Channel Islands. You’ll spend each day on the
high seas, and dock at night on the islands, starting with village of Two
Harbors on beautiful Catalina island. While at Two Harbors, you can snorkel,
swim, kayak and barbeque on the beach. Other potential docking sites include
the remote and wild Santa Barbara Island and the beach town of Avalon on
Catalina Island, which has wonderful snorkeling and beaching. Dockings provides
beaches for swimming and games, a leisurely nature hike, historical points,
Native American archeological sites, mud flats, tide pools, and unique plant and
animal life.
The crew of the American Pride will cater your meals and also offers
naturalist guidance about the surrounding environment. You have the option of
berthing below deck or throwing out a sleeping bag and letting the stars lull
you to sleep. You’ll be required to sing sea shanties, pitch in with shipboard
duties, and maybe even walk the plank. Arrr. You must swim well to go on this
trip. This is an excellent trip for students who would like to explore
California’s coastal waters and sample life aboard a classic schooner.
