Want to try some river fun? This is the trip for you! You will be camping on the banks of the Kern River, one of California's most famous rafting rivers. Groups will get a chance to have water fun for one day and climb the camp facility's climbing wall one day. There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy when not on the river including volley ball, horseshoes, field games, hiking and swimming.
After a long day of paddling and climbing, participants have the chance to exchange stories of the day around a warm campfire sipping hot chocolate. One evening may even include a quick trip into the town of Kernville for some pizza!
Note: This trip is very dependent upon the water levels of the Kern River during each particular year. If water levels are too low for rafting, you will have a chance to do some kayaking and stand-up-paddle boarding!
Community Engagement Component
Previous River OA trips have worked with the Kern River Preserve, managed by Audubon California. OA groups have planted trees and understory plants from local stock to restore the once vibrant riparian forest and surrounding upland vegetation. Helping remove non-native plant species has helped preserve the natural environment of this location for future OA trips!
