Zoë Batterman ’24 Awarded Goldwater Scholarship

One of our majors was awarded the Goldwater Scholarship. Zoë Batterman ’24 is one of 413 Goldwater Scholars named for 2023.

According to Goldwater Scholarship: “Each Goldwater Scholar annually receives an amount equal to the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, books, and room and board […] up to a maximum of $7,500 per full academic year. […] From an estimated pool of over 5,000 college sophomores and juniors, 1267 natural science, engineering and mathematics students were nominated by 427 academic institutions to compete for the 2023 Goldwater scholarships.” Only two scholarships were awarded to students at Pomona College in 2023.

During her time at Pomona College, Zoë has engaged in research projects with mathematics professors Konrad Aguilar and Edray Goins. This coming summer, she plans to participate in the SMALL REU at Williams College. Ultimately Zoë plans to attend graduate school where she earn a doctorate in mathematics, pursuing a research career in algebraic geometry.
