#HelpingHens is a CDO initiative that provides alumni and families with helpful ways they can be active in supporting students through a variety of opportunities. We greatly appreciate the assistance and support you provide to students through the Career Development Office at Pomona College. We are happy to help you discover new ways to become an advocate for students.
Here are some ways that you can get involved:
Promote Paid Opportunities at Your Organization
Help connect students and alumni with available paid job or internship opportunities at your organization. Pomona alumni and families can help students, seniors, and alumni by offering opportunities with their employer or organization. Students and alumni alike appreciate seeing an opportunity that has been referred to the CDO by a fellow Sagehen.
To post an opportunity contact firstname.lastname@example.org to get started.
Host a Paid Micro-Internship
Micro-Internships are short-term, paid opportunities that are similar to those given to new hires or interns. These projects enable Career Launchers to demonstrate skills, explore career paths, and build their networks as they seek the right full-time role. Unlike traditional internships, Micro-Internships can take place year-round, typically range from 5 to 40 hours of work, and are due between one week and one month after kick-off. Micro-Internships are used by companies ranging from those in the Fortune 100 to emerging start-ups, and go across departments including sales, marketing, technology, HR, and finance.
*Please note the payment is made by the organization, Micro-Internships are not paid by the college.
Join Sagehen Connect and Become a Sage Coach
Alumni, Sagehen Connect is Pomona College’s official alumni directory. Register and sign up to be a Sage Coach to assist students and alumni with career and graduate school advice, job/internship information, and resume reviews, sit on career panels and conduct presentations. Families and friends of the college, if you would like to participate in assisting our students in these ways please contact email@example.com.
Join Discussions in LinkedIn Groups
You can make a significant impact on students and alumni. If you would like to offer your career related thoughts, experiences and opinions to help others, consider making yourself available as an Alum or Parent Mentor in our LinkedIn Groups. Search for Pomona College LinkedIn groups including Pomona College Alumni and Career Connections.
Conversations and connections through these groups have provided students with vital information about career preparation, jobs, internships and more. Your participation in our LinkedIn group does not obligate you to find opportunities for students; it merely says that you are willing to be a friendly voice in the otherwise anonymous, often intimidating world of work and job search.
