For more than four months now the Draper Center team has been eagerly making preparations for the Draper Center's 2013 Alternabreak Program. With trips departing to San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles, this year's program is bound to be packed with exciting engagement and exploration activities.

Started by Sarah Kuriakose ‘07 in March 2006 with the help of a community engagement grant, Alternabreak has grown to become one of most active programs at the Draper Center. Although Alternabreak only pans out for about a week, much planning goes on in the background starting as early as August 2012. This year seven Draper Center Student Coordinators will be leading trips:

  • Los Angeles: Diana Ortiz & Hong Gao
  • San Diego: Rebecca Baiman, Stephanie Micham, & Rebekah Lim
  • San Francisco: Angelica Townsend & Eric Martinez

From environmental to social justice work, all trips will provide a varied sample of many of the organizations that work to improve the conditions of their surrounding communities. The itineraries for all trips are becoming more concrete by the day and promise to provide all interested students with the opportunity to establish valuable community partnerships with both local and regional organizations. The Alternabreak team will be hosting information sessions for all those interested in applying to the program on February 7th and 8th, 2013 at 7:30PM at the Draper Center. Alternabreak is right around the corner, don't miss out on this awesome opportunity!
