Students who participate in study abroad will be required to have a health exam. You may wish to make an appointment with your home physician or The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) Student Health Service now for a health exam and immunizations that may be required for travel overseas. Although an exam is not required of Applicants until after you accept your offer and become a study abroad Participant, appointments often fill quickly and you should plan ahead.
As a study abroad applicant you should begin to investigate health and safety issues pertinent to the country in which you hope to study. The International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers has a comprehensive list of travel health resources to help you plan. It is also recommended that you research your destination on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Travelers’ Health website and the U.S. Department of State’s website. Health Exam and Immunizations for Admitted Students
You should contact your home physician or The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) Student Health Service immediately to make an appointment for a required health exam, if you have not already done so, and for any immunizations that may be required for travel overseas. Be aware that your program sponsor may also require a completed medical form. You should contact your program sponsor about this prior to your medical appointment to enable you to complete both forms, if necessary, during one doctor's visit.Note that the physician must have conducted your medical exam within one year from the start date of your program and s/he should be someone to whom you are not related. Some study abroad programs require a more recent medical examination; contact your program sponsor for more information.
