Important COVID-19 Campus Update (12/14/20)

Dear Pomona College Faculty and Staff:

With the current surge of COVID-19 cases, health care workers, hospitals and the larger emergency medical system in Los Angeles and neighboring counties face heavy and increasing strains. As a campus community, we want to do everything we can to help in this crisis for our region.

The first step everyone must take: do not come to campus unless it is truly necessary and required for your job. With our holiday closure drawing near, this is the time for all of us to curtail any and all unnecessary visits. By doing so, you allow us to focus more of our resources on those who must work on campus to continue essential operations.

In recent days, we’ve had seen a small uptick in positive test results among people working on campus, and we are carrying out contact tracing and additional notifications for those in affected areas. If a Pomona employee who tests positive for COVID-19 reports they’ve been in close contact with you, you will receive a notification from the College. You will also receive a notification if you are in a work area that we’ve learned has been exposed.

We want to remind you of our Pomona Safe protocols and resources, including our on-campus clinic for testing. Please seek testing if you have COVID-19 symptoms, and please do not work if you are ill.

Everyone can help by following public health guidelines requiring the use of face coverings, physical distancing and other measures such as the regional stay-at-home order that went into effect earlier this month. While there is much good news on the vaccine front, this is not the time to drop our guard. Receiving the vaccine is likely months away for most of us, and even when it is administered, the vaccine requires time to be effective in providing protection.

Right now, cases are accelerating in our region and we all need work together to protect one another as a community. Again, please do not come to campus right now unless it is truly necessary and required for your job, and please follow public health rules such as mask-wearing and physical distancing as the holiday break draws near.

We deeply appreciate your help in this urgent effort.
