Important Public Health Update: January Opening Information (12/31/21)

Dear Pomona College Staff and Faculty,

We hope you are having a happy holiday season. Given the winter surge of COVID-19 infections, driven largely by the highly infectious Omicron variant, we are making some important modifications to our public health protocols as we prepare for the start of the semester.

As a temporary measure, we are asking all staff members who can do their jobs from home to work remotely until January 18, when classes start and students will be back on campus.

This two-week shift to remote work will reduce density and allow time for the College to ramp up staff COVID-19 testing with the Omicron variant surging here in Los Angeles County and around the globe.

We recognize remote work will not be possible for all employees – please talk with your supervisor regarding your work arrangement over the next few weeks.

Many new employees have started at Pomona since our community returned to campus, and assistance is available to get set up for remote work. New staff members who do not have equipment in place to work remotely should consult with their supervisor as well as contact the ITS Help Desk for loaner laptops. (As this is a temporary remote work arrangement, new staff may be required to come to campus to work until technology is available.)

Starting the week of January 10, all staff and faculty working on campus must be tested weekly for COVID. Employees who are starting the new semester by working remotely will not need to test until the week of January 18.

All faculty and staff who are already on a mandatory testing schedule twice a week must continue to follow their routine tests if they are on campus during this period.

COVID-19 testing for faculty and staff will be conducted by Hamilton Health Box at the on-campus clinic at118 8th Street.

We will provide additional implementation details on mandatory testing in the coming days.

Thank you for your help and flexibility to ensure as safe a start to the new year as possible and as we prepare for the return of students and classes after the break.

Sincerely,
