Important Update on COVID-19 Testing for Faculty/Staff and Vaccination Policy (6/1/21)

Key takeaways:

  • Please get vaccinated for COVID-19 and upload your information.
  • For employees who fully are vaccinated, testing requirements to work on campus will soon be dropped.
  • We expect COVID-19 vaccinations will be required for staff and faculty in the near future.
  • Masking requirements remain in effect at Pomona at this time.

Dear Pomona College Community,

We are writing with good news.

As vaccination takes hold and progress in containing the pandemic continues, we now are able to adjust our testing requirements for staff and faculty members who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19:

Starting June 7, faculty and staff who are fully vaccinated and have uploaded their information no longer need to be regularly tested – regardless of how often they come to campus.

At the same time, we will continue to regularly test faculty and staff who have not uploaded proof of vaccination but routinely come to campus as defined in our guidelines. Additional details, including requirements for testing if you show COVID-19 symptoms, after international travel and other scenarios, are found in our FAQ.

Faculty and staff: Once you’ve received the final dose of your COVID-19 vaccine, please upload your vaccination card.

All students will need to be vaccinated. Once students have received the final dose of the vaccine, please upload vaccination information to this site. There will be exemptions for documented medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Staff/Faculty Vaccination Requirement on the Way

As you know, students are required to maintain a range of vaccinations and, at Pomona, that now includes COVID-19 vaccination. In this pandemic, which forced the closure of our campus for more than a year, we need to take effective steps to promote public health and maintain progress in containing the virus.

To that end, all faculty and staff also will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination once the Food and Drug Administration provides full authorization of any one of the three vaccines currently being provided in the U.S. under the emergency use authorization. As it has for students, the College will consider exemptions for valid medical reasons and sincerely held religious beliefs.

We are planning for the full return of students for fall, and these steps will help us to fulfill our vital academic mission, one that changes lives and the world around us for the better.

Mask Rules Remain in Place

The national news on mask requirements has been confusing in recent weeks. However, California’s rules have not changed, and Pomona’s mask requirements remain in place at this time.

As public health guidelines continue to evolve with the course of the pandemic, we will continue to work with the Covid Planning and Response group to adapt policies for classrooms and other spaces as the semester approaches.

Thank you to everyone for your continued commitment to our mission of educating students while maintaining public safety during this time of transition. We look to fall with optimism and excitement, and we look forward to seeing you back on campus once again.
