President Starr's Weekly Update (10/12/21)

Dear Pomona College Community,

As we approach the midpoint of the semester, let me offer a reminder of the continued importance of masks, testing and other public health measures. Last week, we had seven COVID-19 positive test results among students and none among faculty and staff, for a 0.33 percent positivity rate for the nearly 2,400 tests conducted.

Case rates continue to decline in Los Angeles County, with the daily positivity rate at around 1 percent. I want to make sure our community stays on a positive course as well. In this long pandemic, we need to be persistent with our safety protocols.

Pomona has come far in a short span of time, as we’ve resumed our in-person education and on-campus living. On Thursday, we will gather outdoors to celebrate our Founders Day, and Friday marks the start of Family Weekend, which will include appropriate safety measures and be held outdoors as well.

Our diligent and dedicated staff members play a crucial role in making all this possible. Today, let’s extend our thanks and gratitude through this video recognizing some of their behind-the-scenes work as we’ve adapted to the pandemic this semester.

All the best,
