Update on Planning for Summer and Fall (3/11/21)

Dear Pomona College Community,

We are writing to share good news we received this week from Los Angeles County.

The county soon will be moving into the less-restrictive red tier under the state COVID-19 system. As we have long sought, the county now has agreed to lift nearly all of its restrictions on higher education that go beyond the state guidance. While a return to residential living on campus is not permitted for spring semester, it will be for summer if we remain in red tier or better.

This opens up possibilities for resuming some of our usual on-campus activities of summer research and internships, and discussions will be underway shortly with our faculty, staff and student planning group to chart the path forward.

This latest news also solidifies our path for full reopening in fall, as the county is moving closer and closer to full alignment with the state guidance.

It is very gratifying to see this progress for our students and our entire community. We will continue to take the lead in advocating for higher education in our county as we move forward for full return of our students in fall.

Sincerely,

Seth Allen, vice president for strategy & dean of admissions and financial aid
Christina Ciambriello, chief of staff and secretary to the Board of Trustees
