Updated Mask Guidance (1/12/22)

Dear Pomona College Community,

Revised guidelines from the LA County Public Health Department prohibit the use of cloth masks. Further, LA County requires that all College employees wear a well-fitting medical grade surgical mask or higher-level respirator, such as an N95 or KN95 mask, always while indoors. LA County is strongly recommending that individuals wear their masks outdoors as an additional layer of protection for individuals and their communities. While masks are recommended for outdoor classrooms, instructors have discretion to set policy based on pedagogical need in outdoor settings.

To support compliance with the revised LA County guidelines, the College has obtained an inventory of surgical and KN95 masks for use by members of our community while on campus. Many departments and offices already have a supply of these masks and some may be in the process of ordering masks for their department’s use. If this is the case, please feel free to continue to order your own supplies.

Effective on January 18, we will implement the following protocol for distribution of masks to those departments and offices who need them:

  • We will provide all service staff a complement of 5 masks each week;
  • All other departments and offices can request masks for faculty and staff who are on campus from Facilities and Campus Services via the TMA work order system. To ensure we have enough supply to cover our needs through the current COVID-19 surge, we will limit masks to 3 per faculty or staff per week if they plan to come to campus on a regular basis.

We are also planning to distribute a limited supply of masks to students. Student Affairs will be coordinating this effort.
