Soprano Ursula Kleinecke is joined by faculty and friends in a program of music by Babcock, Beach, Bernstein,  DeBlasio, Harbison, Hoiby and Walker that all speak to different experiences of women.

Ursula Kleinecke takes the audience on a joyful exploration of women’s stories through their words and music. The program is anchored by John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs, a setting of six poems of 16th century Indian mystic poet Mirabai. At age 27, Mirabai was expected to kill herself in her husband’s funeral pyre. Instead, she ran away, danced and wrote poetry… and became the fire herself. At times poignant, defiant, reverent, romantic and witty, this rich musical program offers an artistically satisfying blend of styles of the late 19th through the 20th centuries.
