Join the Humanities Studio at Pomona College in welcoming Catherine Gallagher, professor emerita of English at UC Berkeley, to speak on “Character and Counterfactuals” as part of the Studio’s “post/truth” Speakers Series.
Gallagher is the author of Telling It Like It Wasn’t: The Counterfactual Imagination in History and Fiction, a book that examines the tendency of historians to invent alternate histories (“What if JFK had a second term?”) and identifies this counterfactual mode as a method for envisioning our future. The event, co-sponsored by the Department of English, is free and open to the public.
