Rudich

Pomona College music faculty member Rachel Rudich will present a program of flute music composed by Emeritus faculty composer, Karl Kohn from 1958-2018. Joining her are fellow faculty members including Sarah Thornblade (violin), Jack Sanders (guitar) and Gayle Blankenburg (piano).

Kohn's works have been performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Buffalo Philharmonic orchestras, as well as the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. From his early works, couched in harmonic idioms derived from Bartók and Hindemith, his stylings evolved in the mid-1950s until the early 1960s, to derive from serial procedures. Since the mid '60s, his music has been notable for its chromatic and athematic character combined with chords, figurations, and textures evocative of earlier musics.
