Associate conductor Stephen Klein leads the Pomona College Band this semester in a program of music by Georges Bizet, Gerald Finzi, Tom Flaherty, Karl King, Oliver Dubon ’20 and others, with guest solo clarinetist Leslie Schroerlucke.
The Pomona College Band, Graydon Beeks, director, is one of the oldest college bands in the country, and was founded in 1909. Its membership is drawn from students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges and members of the local community. The ensemble performs concerts each semester, often featuring student and faculty soloists and composers. Members of the band have been selected to perform with national and regional intercollegiate bands sponsored by the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). The band’s April 2018 performance of Robert Russell Bennett’s Autobiography, Part I was featured on the Small College Band Program Showcase at the National CBDNA Conference in March 2019.
