The Pomona College Student Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) chapter warmly invites you to an event honoring Maryam Mirzakhani.

Mirzakhani (Tehran 1977-Stanford 2017) won the Fields Medal in 2014 for her groundbreaking work in the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces. The Fields Medal is the most prestigious award in mathematics, and has been awarded to 2-4 mathematicians once every four years since 1936. Mirzakhani is the first woman (and the first Iranian) who has won the prize. She died of breast cancer in 2017 at the age of 40.

The memorial exhibition is commissioned by the International Mathematical Union’s Committee for Women in Mathematics. Comprised of eighteen posters, the exhibition was unveiled at the World Meeting for Women in Mathematics (WM)² in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 31, 2018. It has also been displayed at the: International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2018) in Brazil, 2019 Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Research Symposium at Rice University, Princeton University, and Pomona College.

The memorial exhibition will be on display in the Math Foyer upstairs. Light refreshments will be available.
